Brimfield Memorial House Association and the Kelso House Museum

All of our lyceums begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the McCormick Heritage Room in the basement of the Kelso House. They are free and open to the public. “The Real Tiffany Story”, the real creative energy behind the Louis Comfort Tiffany designs presented by Linda Alexander, a BMHA member and descendent of Clara Wolcott Driscoll Booth. Linda and her family are related to many of the old Brimfield family names such as Wolcott, Fenn and Carter. She will talk about her roots, and her great-great grandmother’s part in the Tiffany workshops. The BMHA archive is fortunate to hold many of the Wolcott sisters round-robin letters from the 19th century.

“The History of Cheesemaking”, presented by Abbe Turner of the Lucky Penny Farm in Hiram, Ohio. Abbe is a cheesemaker herself and crafts fresh goat’s milk to create an artisan cheese, which she has sold to Northeast Ohio specialty stores and restaurants. She has studied her craft in Pennsylvania, Vermont and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a member of the Ohio Farmstead Artisan Cheese Guild. Join us as we learn how it is done, then taste the results.

“Bottles of the 19th Century”, presented by Brian Gray, a Brimfield resident and president of the Ohio Bottle Club. Brian is a graduate of Kent State University were he also completed an honors project on this subject. As part of his program for the evening, he invites the audience to bring their antique bottles for evaluation. Brian will also have many items from his personal collection on exhibit in our museum from February through April 2008.
