The Brimfield Memorial House Association Endowment Fund
The future financial security of the Brimfield Memorial House Association has been a concern since its organization in 1962. Members who serve as Board Trustees accept the responsibility of generating the income required to maintain and develop the building, grounds, collections, and programs that fulfill the organization’s educational and historical aims. BMHA receives no state or federal money and depends on memberships, special contributions, memorial gifts, and bequests to support ongoing projects.
In 1981, the Board of Trustees voted to set aside receipts from special and memorial gifts and life membership dues in a savings account or Endowment Fund to be protected against use to meet routine expenses.
Then in 1996, the Board of Trustees followed the suggestion of member, Attorney Dwight Parsons of Akron, and turned to the Akron Community Foundation for investment advice. They voted to transfer the Endowment Fund to ACF for management and development as a growing investment.
The agreement entered into with the Akron Community Foundation on March 11, 1996 established The Brimfield Memorial House Association Endowment Fund with the designated purpose of “the furtherance of the programs of the BMHA, to preserve local history, and expand interest and knowledge of the past in this area.” Contributions to ACF are professionally invested, are tax-deductible, and may be designated as memorials or tributes to friends and family.
