The Association's Mission is to

  • Honor the memory of the rural Brimfield Township that existed from its settling in 1816 into the early 1900s and to link that historical past to the present;
  • Preserve and exhibit, for the appreciation of the public, certain historical buildings or objects that illustrate life in the township;
  • Maintain and make available resources - records, books, photographs, and archival materials - concerned with this rural Western Reserve township and its place in history - for research and study by interested, responsible persons;
  • Promote interest in and interpretation of the history of Brimfield Township for the education of its residents, students, teachers, the public, and other interested persons;
  • Serve as a center for community gatherings in keeping with the original, historic uses of the Kelso House, for the enjoyment of residents and passers-by.

Trustees

Individuals with an interest in serving on the Board of Trustees for the Brimfield Historical Society should be aware that we elect three new trustees to the board each year. The election is part of the annual meeting of the membership held on the third Monday of June. Trustees serve a three-year term.

The Board is comprised of volunteers who meet once a month to oversee the affairs of the organization. Although there is no paid compensation, Board members benefit by learning about the general operations of a non-profit organization through their contribution of service.

An interest in local history, education, and program management is desirable but previous board experience is not necessary. Please submit your name for consideration to the Curator via email, curator@kelsohouse.org.

Unpaid Internships Available

The Brimfield Historical Society has unpaid internship positions available for business, arts administration, education or museology students. This individual would assist in the basic operations and management of the Kelso House Museum gallery, collection and our educational programs. A commitment of 15 to 30 hours per week is expected.

If you are a responsible and friendly individual who wants to gain experience running a 501c3 non-profit organization, managing volunteers, designing and installing exhibits and assisting with clerical duties, contact Judi Allen, BHS Curator, at 330-673-1058 or e-mail her at curator@kelsohouse.org. Plan to submit your resume and a cover letter that discusses your interests and intentions. We are able to work around your schedule. Call if you have questions.

Volunteers Wanted

If you would like to gain experience helping to organize and manage a museum, mount exhibits and host workshops or perhaps you’d prefer to serve as a gallery host or help us with simple office duties, call Judi Allen, curator, at 330-673-1085 or e-mail her at curator@kelsohouse.org to arrange for an interview.
